People in Wichita Falls are asking if they can become addicted to CBD?

Is CBD legal in Texas?

CBD, which is short for “cannabidiol,” is a common chemical compound found in a class called “cannabinoids” that naturally occur in cannabis plants.  Although discovered almost 80 years ago, CBD is just now booming in popularity as a natural, safe and holistic health aid — and for good reason.  Not only is CBD highly effective for a wide array of health issues, but it contains none of the addictive properties that are found in many prescription Big Pharma drugs.  In fact, CBD is touted by addiction counselors, physicians and law enforcement officials worldwide as a remedy to help fight many addictions!

Why isn’t CBD addictive?

CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabis compound that contains less than 0.3% of THC, which is the element that makes one feel “high” by triggering a release of dopamine in the brain’s pleasure center.  Because CBD does not produce an excessive release of dopamine, it cannot get you high — so there is no “euphoria” present that’s commonly associated with addictive drugs. Furthermore, there are no withdrawal symptoms when a person stops using CBD.

How does CBD help combat addiction?

Neurotransmitters are the body’s chemical messengers that affect a wide variety of both physical and psychological functions, including heart rate, sleep, appetite, mood and fear. Addictive drugs such as opioids, cocaine, heroin – and even nicotine and alcohol – disrupt neurotransmission, resulting in drug cravings, dependence and withdrawal symptoms when the drugs process out of the body.  The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) defines addiction as a disease affecting brain chemistry and circuitry, which subsequently leads to drug-seeking and using behaviors.

On the other hand, CBD actually works to balance the levels of neurotransmitters in the brain.  If there’s too much of one neurotransmitter, CBD will help to lower it.  And if there isn’t enough of another, CBD will help bring it up to a balanced level.

Will CBD make me high like marijuana?

  1. The miniscule amount of THC contained in CBD — less than 0.3% — is not enough to get one high. This fact, along with the tremendous medical benefits provided by CBD, is the reason why CBD is today one of the fastest growing natural medical treatment options in the U.S. and across the globe.

What if CBD contains higher than 0.3% of THC?

To be legally sold in the U.S. – including Texas – CBD cannot have more than 0.3% of THC. However, there are some CBD products that are mislabeled and do contain higher levels.  That’s why it’s so important to purchase CBD products only from a credible source with a proven track record in the industry.
